The Ring Nebula is a small but bright planetary nebula that can be found in the constellation Lyra. M57 has two obvious colors, which are the result of temperature differences, the internal hot gas is blue while the cold outer gas is red.
Messier 57 is growing at a rate of at least 43,000 miles per hour, about 12 miles per second, it will continue to grow for more than 10,000 years before finally becoming faint enough to merge with the interstellar medium and disappear completely.
This was captured with my refractor telescope from our Las Vegas backyard, and is made up of an RGB and an HA master. It is 12 hours of data (4 hours RGB + 8 hours HA).
